Only someone who has themselves experienced a herniated disc can truly understand how excruciating the pain is that they cause. Now the problem for people who have never had to go through herniated disc recovery, is that the actual damage is unseen. It’s inside of your body, so they often just don’t understand.

It’s the main nerves that run up along the spins that are effected, so the pain can and often does come from more than one area of the body.
Now it’s quite usual and in fact expected to have pain in the lower back and legs but it can also flare up on the bottoms of your feet, or even places like your chest, and stomach wall.
The good news is that a lot of progress has been made in recent years with regards to treating the symptoms of herniated disc. Of course there always is narcotic pain medication, but believe it or not you can get by without it.
In the beginning the best treatment for herniated disc recovery is bed rest, or at least rest in a comfortable reclining chair. Also swimming and wading works great too a little further on because it allows you to exercise, and fight off muscle spasms without putting weight on your spine.
An injury of this type not only hurts physically but its depressing too. It hurts both the mind and the body and it can just seem at times that it will never end. This is why when I ruptured a disc I went on a two weeks vacation and stayed at the Raleigh Hotel Miami to swim, relax, and heal.
